It is absolutely impossible to visit Seville without running into the tourist masses. Tourism is massive here. But you can avoid the worst places, such as the square by the cathedral and the surrounding streets

– sharing the authentic with you

The further away from the cathedral – the fewer tourists

If you e.g. move over to the other side of the river there are not so many tourists.

The gypsy district Triana has become well-known – also among tourists – but here there are many small cozy streets where you can move around undisturbed – and it is a very special experience.

The Triana neighbourhood – seen from the river boat

An overlooked attraction is the city wall that encircles the historic centre.

It is quite impressive and can be seen in many places – completely without tourists. Eg. right next to the Andalusian Parliament, where you will also find another of the overlooked sights; the church Basilica de la Macarena.

The best thing about Seville is that there are restaurants and cafes everywhere

And it’s cheap to eat here. Even if you get away from it all and out into the residential areas, there are still good restaurants and local food experiences to be found.

A really good way to see Seville is with a river tour

It is actually a tourist trip, but the view and the experience do not fail despite the tourists on board (tickets).

The tour departs from the Gold Tower, Torre del Oro, all the way up to the site of the world exhibition EXPO-92 and back again.

Moreover, Torre del Oro is one of the attractions that you can easily visit without the multitude of tourists (ticket at the entrance).

Torre de Oro – the Golden Tower

There are, however, some of the major tourist attractions that are worth visiting despite the many tourists.

The Cathedral is huge and very impressive – and definitely worth a visit. But there are approx. 100 meter queue outside – and it goes slowly.

If you want to enter the cathedral, make sure you have bought tickets in advance, e.g. by GetYourGuide.

Real Alcazar de Sevilla

The absolute best sight in Seville is the old Moorish palace Real Alcazar, which is almost as impressive as La Alhambra in Granada.

There are many tourists here and tickets must be bought in advance (e.g. at GetYourGuide), but it is big and the tourists spread out so you can move around unhindered. Amazingly beautiful gardens and incredible architecture.

Plaza de España

Another fine sight is the Plaza de España with tiled benches for each of the Spanish provinces.

There are lots of tourists here, but it is a large square, so you can easily experience it without being particularly disturbed. Do also visit the small park opposite – it’s cozy and peaceful here.
